it is not time or opportunity that is to determine intimacy, it is disposition alone. seven years would be insufficient to make some people acquainted with each other and seven days are more than enough for others.

to my beloved on our eighth wedding anniversary,

i have found that even eight years has been insufficient to make us fully acquainted. i hope our intimate conversation lasts for many, many more years to come.

i love you

  9. I didn’t forget – glad you had a Happy anniversary.
whatever changes happen in the future remember how special you are to each other. It takes time to get to know someone, knowing needs trust and trust is released gradually for important things, quickly for others… understanding another person is a skill and takes gentleness and awareness and allowances for their preferences and ways of doing things. I’ve found that doesn’t often match up with my romantic notions of how things ought to be. Long time loving takes giving up our own ideas of how things should be and looking for ways to do things in the other person’s romantic (or otherwise) way. And it’s not all bad either, it makes us better for it though it changes us – but we are all changing! We just need a common understanding that we will go all out to change together and share each others’ passions not just our own. Make a pact to be certain to include most things we both like with time aside for things each of us likes and to change for the other person’s comfort and enjoyment. After 21 years this seems the most successful route… even though I haven’t become the person I thought I was, I like what I am becoming through my husband’s influence and my own aspiration to be the creative person I am – I hope he feels the same way.
